The Bible.

The Bible is God's revelation to mankind, and to the Christian it is a book of life.

The Bible was given to us over a period of 1100 years.
The Old Testament was written between 1447 BC and 445 BC, and the New Testament between 30 AD and 95 AD.

The Bible is no less better described as the "Very Book of Life", the most trusted of all books.
It is and always has been, "the worlds best selling book, every year".

Access to the Bible, was Restricted

Until the fourteenth century, access to the Bible, was restricted and controlled. The folk of most any country could only have access to the Bible through a priest and then only in the obsolete and restrictive language of Latin (ancient of Rome).

Also at that time, most ordinary folk were illiterate, making their dependence on third party scriptural interpretation a necessity.

With the advent of "The Reformation," it was realised that the Bible or the Scriptures were meant for use by ordinary folk everywhere, as a daily access. Much of this enlightenment came about by the development of the printing press. Now the Bible could be printed and distributed to all countries and all peoples, without restriction or control.

Given that the original Scriptures were handwritten manuscripts, written mainly in Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament), it was necessary to translate the Scriptures into a useable, singular book form.

Translations of the Bible

There have been many different translations of the Bible from the time of Wycliffe in the fourteenth century onwards. The one which has been used by the greatest number of people and for the longest period of time is known as the King James or Authorised Version of 1611.

This translation was the work of 47 Biblical Scholars commissioned by King James 1. The translation, which was completed in 1611, is un-surpassed in beauty and power of expression by any other book in the English language.

King James ordered that the Bible be available in every church throughout His Kingdom. To ensure its access by ordinary folk, the King ordered that the Bible be "chained" to the pulpit, ensuring that it was always seen as accessible.

Which Version

In choosing a Bible version, there are many.  The best and most trusted is the King James Version.  The language is very beautiful, and may appear a little 'antiquated ', but once read, as a 'New Christian' it becomes alive and wonderful.

Many Bible studying folk have a number of versions of the Bible, giving the benefit of interpretation comparisons.  Whatever 'other' version one uses, it must be close in wording to the KJV, otherwise it may be regarded, as a spurious version.

The Bible version best recommended:

The King James Bible, or Authorised Version, of 1611.
